Jettin...

We're going to DisneyWorld!
disneyworld.jpg

Pixie has been shrieking this for the past weeks and days - and I have to admit - I've caught the excitement!
I've never been either!
I'm not terribly excited to fly though. ugh.
Last time I flew had to take off my Doc Martens for security.
It was funny because I was wearing handknit socks and the lady admired them!
yeah. so flying not so hot for me. gotta put on a brave happy face for the Pixie though.

When knitters travel there is always a concern about "regulations"
I read some posts on the various forums...
Since I'm a wee bit attached to my "lucky" Crystal Palace Sock needles so for the trip there and back,
I purchased a set of Bryspun Plastic Needles...Size 2. (ebay) cheapy. and practically invisible to the XRAY thingy they have there.

These Babies BEND. It's a bit strange to knit with them, as I tried them out last night...but hey...better to be safe than sorry.

In the midst of all the excitement, Pixie and I made a gingerbread house.

It was a kit from Swiss Colony.
Not too darn shabby. We even used up some of the old Hallowe'en Candy...

Wahoo!

For all you seasoned Disneygoers...any tips for us newbies?

I thought you were at WDW already! You will have to take your shoes off at the airport and you will be allowed to bring your knitting needles on the plane.

For future reference, in Orlando, after you check in and get your official airline baggage tags, you must carry your bags over to have them x-rayed. Unlike most other airports, MCO does not have the airline staff tag your luggage and throw it on a conveyor belt behind them. So, carry the bags you will! There is a NASA shop in the airport, Lush, too.

My number one tip is that it is well worth getting up early and getting to the parks when they open for the day. If you get tired or if the park gets crowded, you can always leave, but the morning is the best time to get everything done with minimal waiting on line.

The World of Disney store in Downtown Disney has a huge princess section (including Tinkerbell), so you either want to make time for it or avoid it like the plague. There is a Bibbity Bobbity Bootique there, too, where girls can get hair and makeup (kind of like what you did for Pixie's birthday), but you need to make an appointment in advance. If she wants to do that again, you could always call as soon as you get there to see if they have a time available.

Ditto on the dining -- call 407-WDW-DINE ASAP if you want to eat at any of the sitdown restaurants. When we were there last week, we had some advance reservations, but on the nights we didn't, we found many restaurants full or dining times before 5:00 pm or after 9:30 pm. I love Boma over at Animal Kingdom Lodge. We also like the Kona Cafe at the Polynesian. Artist Point at the Wilderness Lodge is fabulous, though expensive. For a fun meal with Pixie, try a character meal at Chef Mickey's (Contemporary) or The Crystal Palace (Magic Kingdom) or Roaring Forks (Wilderness Lodge) or the 50's Prime Time Cafe (Disney MGM Studios). My favorite snack in the entire place is the pineapple whip at the Dole stand in Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom -- I've been scarfing those down since I was a preschooler.

If you're still around, e-mail me if you have any specific questions. Otherwise, have fun!

I hope you guys have a wonderful time! I'm sure it will be special for both of you.

One of the benefits of growing up in Florida was that I got to go to these parks on school trips, so I was there pretty often. It brings back memories to think of them. Be prepared to spend a good amount of money on food. Be sure to bring water bottles and take a few breaks during the day. Don't ride Splash Mountain right after you eat!

Whoa! Susan is an expert ;)
I love the gingerbread house! That is so cute. I have never made one of those... someday!

You are going to have a blast!! Make sure and check out the France area @ Epcot! You are a franco-phile, so you can't miss it ;) Get some of the wine.

Have a great time, babe~~

Going to Disney World, I am so jealous. My partner went there when he played baseball in the States, and said it was fantastic. I hope you all have a wonderful time there, and I love your cute gingerbread house too.

Must delurk to say -- have a great time! I took my little princess to Disney in September. I highly recommend having a meal IN the castle with the princesses. Picture with Cinderella included and the other princesses visit your table (Jasmine, Belle, Snow White and the Fairy Godmother were there for our breakfast). The castle is beautiful inside. Food is pretty good, too.

Don't mention it to your girl until you have a reservation... it's HARD to get into. It books up 6 months in advance, but we had luck calling the week leading up to our trip and asking for cancellations. Call the WDW-DINE number once or twice a day the week before. I think Breakfast and Lunch are the ones you really want, and if you really want it, try to get reservations for every day you are there and then plan to go to the Magic Kingdom that day (instead of choosing which day to go to MK, then trying to book).

Have such a great time!

Don't be nervous about flying;think about all the knitting you can get done on the plane:) Have a great time!

Have a wonderful time at Disney. I recommend that you pace yourself and try not to do too much in one day. The pin swap is a huge hit with the kids. So are the autograph books. We didn't do it because the boys weren't interested but I understand that breakfast with the characters is a big hit. Stay for the night parade (get your spot in the front EARLY). Do the rides during the day AND night (everything looks so cool at night). Bring a backpack and pack light. Bring some knitting, you will be in line a lot during the day. Have FUN!

FYI, I have never had a problem with knitting needles on a plane within the US or internationally. Because I once nearly had my scissors confiscated, I usually use nail clippers to cut my yarn on the plane.

Have fun .. . .could you bring back some sunshine for us?

Have a wonderful trip! It's been years since we've been, but the most popular rides were less crowded early and late- we saw the shows during the middle of the day and road Mr. Toad's Wild Ride a gajillion times inbetween. The gingerbread house is just darlin'.

You're so lucky to go to Disneyworld! I'm norwegian and lived in the states for a year (but this was many years ago), and got to go to Florida and Disneyworld! It was so much fun! Since I'm norwegian I have to recommend the Norway area ;)

Have a great time and a Merry Christmas :o)
