Every year it rolls around. Every year I get strange looks from people who ask me...
"The What Festival?!!!"
My sister Kelly makes her Annual Mecca to stay with me and catch up a whole year in a weekend.
It can be a bit of a whirlwind, but one that I am gladly caught up in.
I miss her so very much.
She's been my lifelong best friend since we were knee high to a grasshopper.
Oh, the secrets she could tell! (heehee)
Did ya know my sister is a crack shot?!
Me Neither!
I think I hugged her so tight all weekend - she went home with bruises! I loved every minute!
We dyed yarn using KnitPicks Dye Your Own and some dyes I got from Halycon yarn.
Kiwi (I went crazy with the Cheez Whiz on the green...Oops!!)
Blue Bonnet
Strawberry.
It was a lot of fun and (wow) a lot of work!
This year was made more special (is that even possible?) because Tanya made it to Sheeps.
I love this lady...she was my first secret pal for Knitters Review and that was 3 years ago!
Any chance we can, we always try to see each other, as she is also in the (somewhat) metro vacinity.
Those of you who know her, would agree that she is the very best kind of friend...one to laugh with and hug close!
Tanya is a kindred spirit and a true blue friend.
I feel I'm very blessed in my Knitty Pals.
Ei, Kelly and I met up for breakfast and at the fairgrounds found Tanya...and off we went!
(this is actually a picture of dinner! we were too busy to stop and photog!)
This year it was more relaxed and about just taking it all in and eating FRIED FREAKING TWINKIES. oh-holy-crap-in-a-can-um-yum.
We had 2 twinkie virgins with us...Tanya and Kelly. Their faces. Priceless.
I think all 4 of us are at Stash Capacity and were more selective about what we had to have...it was much more restrained than last year. (hee)
We cruised the Main Exhibition,
Got to meet up with Sherry who is an awesome lady and an inspiration!
Not seeing anything I NEEDED... I gave away a $4 internet coupon (good karma-yay) to someone in the Morehouse booth...
Then I hit Mannings up for some dpn needle keepers and white rubber markers.
(which will disappear over time like always)
Restraint? People...I showed it!
Lunch time we got to hang out with some friends and bloggers on the lawn...wow, what a crowd!
I got to see so many of the lovely knitters I visit daily via their blogs.
It was really cool to see them again.
Although I didn't see Rossana, I did look very hard for her and mentally sent her a hug... :)
So many people were wearing their knits...but Isel's Orangina was my favorite...I got to see her in it up close and personal. Gorgeous in the Rowan Cotton.
Jenna Pink Monkey (as Pixie calls her) graciously gifted me with a pink buddha...
I had recycled some moving boxes for her move...and being a sweetheart and knowing my love for all things buddha - LOOKIE - ...Isn't he cute? (erm, nice hair h.)

I totally practiced restraint. I only bought Red yarn for Something Red (and boy is it red)...some doodads and a mug and sweatshirt..which I wore yesterday to work! woot! When I came home The stash was shocked.
I had a moment of Festival Envy when I saw Lolly's Niddy Noddy...what a great thing to find!!
Everyone made out like Bandits...
Early Sunday morning, Kelly flew out and I had my midterm for school...NICE TIMING! arrgh!
No Sheeps for me on Sunday. Can you tell I was a wee bit disappointed? grrr.
So I missed hanging out with Donna on Sunday. grrr!
This was an awesome moment...
My sister at dinner tried a Cosmopolitan (tanya), A Dirty Martini (ei) and a Gin and Tonic (me). Look at her reaction...
Yuk!
I already can't wait for next year!
I am totally jealous! Everyone looked like they had a great time! Glad you got to spend time with your sister, too!
Posted by: Amanda at May 9, 2006 11:38 AMHey Heather! I looked for you Saturday, but didn't see you guys. I'm so sorry I missed you all. I'm glad you had a great time. We had a blast too.
I'm planning to make it to Stitches in Baltimore - perhaps we can plan something for then.
Posted by: Beth at May 9, 2006 11:42 AMAwesome pics! Did you harrass Ei into posting again? Boy, I miss her blog ... and she seems having so much fun that she doesn't have time to blog anymore! LOL!
Posted by: Agnes at May 9, 2006 12:10 PMWhat a whirlwind weekend! I am so glad that you and Kelly got to spend such quality time together. Love the pics! and Pixie's dress is adorable! (okay, everything about her is!)
So glad you found the red soy for Something Red. It will be a great cardigan on you! Too bad we did not get more time together at the Fest, but I guess I have to share you with others sometimes, don't I? hehe
Love,
L
Looks like you girls had a blast! The yarn you dyed is wonderful looking too!

Haha! Thank you so much. I got so many compliments from so many strangers, I couldn't believe it. It's a great feeling finally making something I can proudly wear!
This year was so much fun and I didn't hide behind any yarn to stalk you or any other blogger. Yay!!
Thanks for the chocolate soap hint, I kept looking and found some singles outside. My sister is going to love it. Glad to hear you had a great time with yours. Sisters are the best!
It looks like you had the best time. What an awesome way to spend time with your sister and friends!
Posted by: Erin at May 9, 2006 01:40 PMI *thought* I practiced restraint till I read your post :-). I have just now decided I will be quitting my job and touring the countries fiber festivals so I can keep up with all my bloggy friends!
It was such a treat to see you all!

I asked hubby get me a fried twink, but he wouldn't.So next year I will be back for those(to say the least reason)
There are some SERIOUSLY cute genes in your family!
Posted by: Becky at May 9, 2006 03:14 PMUm, I'd like a little better explanation as to where you guys went to shoot rifles. You know, it's jsut a trifle worrisome.
I'm so glad that we got a little time together and I was able to present you with the Buddha - I thought you'd like it. The red yarn is divine indeed and I think that your restraint was truly admirable. Wait till you see the purchase I made on the way out - last minute but so great!

Posted by: keowdie at May 9, 2006 05:37 PMYay! It was so great to see you, even if it was just for a little tiny while.
You know, Rhinebeck is only a half a year away, and there are a few crazy Marylanders who make a whirlwind weekend trip up and back...
Posted by: Sarah at May 9, 2006 08:44 PMI was sad that I also did not get to see you and hug you in person at MSW! =( I'm going to use my creativity to craft another excuse to catch up with you...perhaps later this summer or in the fall?
Your sister is so cute! I completely concur with Becky that y'all have good genes!

Posted by: shoofly at May 12, 2006 03:25 PMI just found your blog a month or so ago. I've got a peanut I knit for too. Don't knit much for myself, though. That says something. (Got to change that)
I would have said hi at MD S&W, but well, I missed you. :)
One of the commenters said something about Stitches in Baltimore. Is that the big yarn "trade show" that's sometimes in Atlantic City? Do you have any info about it? Someone mentioned it to me but didn't have any information.
I'm very proud of myself. I didn't buy anything that was already spun. Anyway, thanks for your post. It looks like you had a blast with your sister. I went with a friend and we had fun too. Hope your mid=terms went well!
