in my closet...
Completed: 2006
Yarn: Reynolds Lopi
Color: Cocoa Tweed 008 (3.5 skeins)
Needle: US 11
Pattern: "Knit It!" Spring/Summer 2006.
Size:Tweaked
This is the Knit (sh)it Shrug...
I knew that Gauge and I would be adversaries, HEJ detailed this in her blog.
I tricked sold my soul finessed the knitting g-ds to get it to fit just the way I wanted. Smaller!
I modified the sleeves, 3/4 length is so what I am into lately. I didn't knit with bigger needles...I reknit the front pieces twice.
My method of finesse?
Try it on and knit, repeat. Measure self, knit. Shake fist at Knitting g-ds, knit. Seam, grit teeth. Weave ends, curse floofy ends. Pickup Stitches, growl, knit ribbing. Bind off. Pray. Try on. Peek in mirror.
Dance. Sing... I fought the Shrug and ah, I WON.
Other than that...
These are the things that I've been doing...
...broke down and ebay'd the yarn for Cutaway (that's Rowan Wool/Cotton in Gypsy)
I sold some knitting stuff...so it counts as stash use...right? Damn. I did say 80%. hehe.
...started my March Project Spectrum a bit early (sweater for my niece in Washable Wool/Blend)
...Watching Sex and the City Complete Series (Season 6 - my guilty pleasure)
...picking out my spring knit in the Phildar Tendances. (I love me some haute couture!)
Enjoy your weekend...mine's jampacked already.
psssht...keep it on the DL, but it may involve food, wine and yarn with some DC Metro Area knitters!
ciao!
Posted by Heather at February 23, 2006 09:52 AMWe had seats to that in Boston, somewhere between rows 10 and 15, and DD got sick, so we didn't end up going. I think I was more upset than she was, and now that I've heard your review, I'm so sorry that we missed it. Oh, and I like the shrug, but after all the trouble you had I doubt I'll be knitting it.
Posted by: Susan at February 23, 2006 11:53 AMThat is right! You show that project WHO IS THE BOSS.
GOLD STAR GOLD STAR :)
Cause wow that was quick! It looks lovely.
And if you sold and bought I would guess it is even :) Though I have to say I am not always that interested in the Collections this time I guess 5 euros for one pattern in Tendances isnt that bad. I can always send them to those who are though :) And will be interested to see what you pick.
Posted by: stinkerbell at February 23, 2006 11:58 AMGreat job on that. I love it. If I were to make another garment it would be something similar. Otherwise I don't have the tenacity to stick with a full-on garment!
Posted by: Scout at February 23, 2006 12:10 PMAh! All those secrets have finally come out. I knew you weren't sitting around quietly since your last post.
Great job on the shrug. I feel your pain, but the end result was definitely worth it. Maybe I should apply that same persistence to my Salina. Bleh...
See'ya Saturday!
Posted by: isel at February 23, 2006 12:14 PMLook at that shrug - I love it, H! S'mores! Big kudos to you for all of the alterations you made to it. I think it came out very well. I wanna see it in person ;)
Pixie preciousness! and look there is the blanket! hehe That would have been my dream come true to see the Disney on Ice. That is so *fun*! See you soon, babe.
xo
It's awesome! You can't tell by looking at it that you had a bit of trouble with it! You make such cute things!
Posted by: Karen at February 23, 2006 12:43 PMLove, Love, Love the shrug. Way to kick your knittings ass!
Been wondering when you were going to surface this week... I need my pixie fix ;-)
You've done it again, chickie! I'm impressed with the great job you did on it!

Posted by: Tanya at February 23, 2006 01:46 PMShrug looks great! I hope all the mistakes in the pattern didn't give you a seizure like they almost did HEJ.
Posted by: Anne Marie at February 23, 2006 02:00 PMYes - you definiately won! The fit and color are scrumptious!
Posted by: jillian at February 23, 2006 02:21 PMHuzzah! Like, Totally Hot. You're working that bolero, gf.
Tell Pixie that she can't possibly get any cuter!
Posted by: Becky at February 23, 2006 02:28 PMThat shrug look HOTT, I'm glad that your kicking, punching and swearing made the knitting gods bend to your will, it is how it should be. So, we're totally going to be Cutaway twins with our sweatrs in the same color. Then we can walk down the street holding hands and FREAK people out.
Looking forward to Saturday...
Posted by: Jenna at February 23, 2006 03:04 PMLooks great!

Posted by: Moni at February 23, 2006 05:41 PMAhh, the princesses on ice...we are jealous. My girls would love that, but we missed it here. You look too cute in your shrug! And I can't remember if I commented on your somewhat cowl, but in case I didn't may I say "WOWZA!" You wear it well! Have fun knitty weekend!
Posted by: sUsAn at February 23, 2006 08:28 PMThat shrug looks killer! Your methods sound as scientific as mine. Love how it turned out- way to go!
Posted by: V Knits at February 23, 2006 09:27 PMGREAT looking shrug! I love the color. What are you going to knit from Tendances? I am contemplating Nos., 4 (in a different color), 12, 19 (in a different color), 33, maybe 35. Love this magazine! Of course, I have two bins of stash to use . . .
Posted by: Brenda at February 24, 2006 07:26 AMDamn, baby - you really showed that shrug who's boss! The shrug looks fantastic and I love the shorter sleeve mod.
Have an awesome weekend!
