A Traveling Gnome...

I've been obsessed with one creature lately...I've knitted on him every spare moment.

Pattern courtesy of Simply Knitting...my favorite knitting magazine with FREE gifts...

May I present...

Gnomey McGnomerton*

Completed: December 31, 2005
Yarn: Sirdar DK and Foxy
Needle: US 3 and US 10.5
Pattern: Simply Knitting Swedish Christmas Gnome
Size:Medium Gnome

I realized when he was all together...that he has a slight tilt of the head. I think it makes him look like he's pondering where to travel next.

This guy is a gift...and as sad as I am to part with him...he is after all a Traveling Gnome...and must go.

*ha! Really I didn't name him...but my one NON never-to-knit-not-ever-I-said-ever-also-lets-skip-the yarn-store-and-NOT-touch-the yarn-today-please-or-I-will-protest Sister just can't wrap her grey cells about why we name our knits. Ha! This name is for you, dearie.

Stash Reduction continues at a brisk pace...

I'm making a cabled scarf (also a belated Xmas present) out of the Peace Fleece I had left over from Mean Green.

Stash Knits
It is going to block out lovely. (read:block out lovely in length)
I really am not using a pattern...and it's so basic...I just glommed together what I thought would work...
I really like the garter stitch border - nothing makes me want to stop knitting a scarf like when it rolls. Besides I really wanted to do something a little nicer for a Xmas scarf that I've owed the recipient for 2 years. *ahem*

My Olive, kalamata is getting her zipper. I can't wait to wear her...Coming Soon

I'm trying to decide what to knit next. ALL FROM MY STASH!!!
Don't you Loooove that!
Here are my choices...for right now...

Whaddya think?

Knit and Tonic's Somewhat Cowl - I'd use my Stash Lavold's Silky Wool (with a little help from a friend's stash)

or

Rowan Cork Collection's Kathy in Light Blueish Cork Stash Yarn
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
It's lots of work on US 10s-11s.
But so perfect for the winter!

or do I do little projects (like another pair of fabulous socks and a few more xmas pressies - jeez) and wait to do this lovely lovely lovely knit...

Salina (I'm waiting for my sis to get her felted tweed) so this is a definate but a later definate for sure! Use my Stash Felted Tweed in Midnight.

HELP! Opinions in the comments, please! Ya'll rule. thx.

Holidays?
Pixie and I rang in 2006 by falling asleep before 9:30!
I think we OD'd on T.V.

I hope everyone had a wonderful safe holiday!

Oooooooh...I love that Cork ensemble. It's very you! And I think the pattern would keep you from getting bored.

What better way for me to ring in the new year than my first blog visit of the new year with my dearest Heaz :) I've missed you and the world of knit bloggin. LOVE LOVE LOVE that Gnome. I must have that pattern (yeah like I have time to knit him). That Foxy is quite popular lately.

As far as knits, I like Kathy but agree that it would be a lot of knitting. Salina gets my vote :)

I love the Somewhat Cowl, but I may be biased... I already picked up the pattern from Wendy! I'm just finishing up her Not So Shrunken Cardigan pattern and have LOVED knitting it - the pattern is well written, it's a fun knit, minimal seaming/ finishing and I'm super excited to wear it... unlike some of my other projects, this one has turned out just as expected!!!

Love the gnome! Very cute! I'm weghing in with my vote. I think you should knit the Somewhat Cowl. I should be ready for Salina by the time you finish!

Missed you & Pixie this Christmas... maybe next year!

Ay ay ay, you're killing me with that little guy. How cute!!!

I vote for the Somewhat Cowl, which now I want to make...not that I need to add another project to my list, thanks a lot! ;) Hmm. I have some Silky Wool in my stash too...wooo...

Salina, of course, is a must, which reminds me I should finish mine.

Happy 2006.

My vote is for the Sonewhat Cowl... Very cute..
Also, a certain sister (ME) would love to get her hands on your cabled scarf pattern!

I love Kathy in the Rowan Cork. Perfect for winter, indeed!

Love your gnome! so cute!

OMG! I love that gnome! He's so cute, if anything, the head tilt makes him look cuter! Oh and I vote for the Rowan Cork sweater, I've always wanted to knit that one.

I love Gnomey! He reminds me of the Travelocity commercial's Traveling Gnome, very cute.

I think that Wendy's Somewhat Cowl would really suit you. It's a very cute pattern, I think I might like to make one too, with 3/4 sleeves.

Okay, let me just say that I just noticed the Yoda & Barbie photo in your gutter... and laughed so hard I peed myself!!!

You are a funny one, Skisker!

Ack, I missed my H while I was gone - but what a lovely surprise to come home to a bonafied blog entry! Yippee!! LOVE the gnome. That is so friggin cute - definitely a worthy fun fur project. I think I need one *copy cat*

Oh, I am loving the cowl-I think I told you that. The Cork is YOU too - why not eeny meeny miney mo about which one first? that is what I do! ;) Great stash busting scarf - I love that Peace Fleece yarn.

See you soon - expect a big hug ;)

I'm going to have to vote for the cowly number. I think the others look cozy and everything, but we could all use a little sexy from time to time, and that one sure is sexy.

Happy New Year, by the way.

I'm trying for a little balance - so I've got a small project on the needles (like socks - good for commuting, yo) and a larger project going at home. I think the Rowan jacket is gorgeous, but I know I'd want to poke out my eyes if I was working on only that one item. Maybe since it's knit on 10's and 11's it'll go quick little a rabbit!

Oh - and the gnome? A-freakin'-dorable.

Happy New Year to you and Pixie! :)

That gnome is so adorable! I vote for the Somewhat Cowl, but any of the choices would look great on you!

That gnome is soooo cute! I wish I had picked up that issue. I"ll have to look and see if it's still out there.
I love the Cork sweater! Salina is on my to-do list too. I got the yarn for it on sale. Yay!
Happy New Year!

Love your gnome! I am behinding in procuring my issues of Simply Knitting. If you're into the gnomes, I just happened upon a cute baby one here: http://www.seasonsoriginals.biz/knit-baby-gnome.html. I love the cork the best! I really like that yarn-yum!

Posted by: sUsAn at January 4, 2006 03:28 PM

Hmmm...now that is one tough call. Clearly you should make both at some point. But for now, I'd go with the Cowl. In fact, I'm going to make it myself after seeing your link!

Posted by: Julie at January 4, 2006 05:04 PM

I tried to tell you Happy New Year the other day, but it wouldn't let me.
That gnome is adorable.
Maybe there should be a knit-a-long where you pass him around (traveling gnome) and everyone knits him something to wear. Eventually he will have a wardrobe. And of course he will need a suitcase to put all the stickers of the places he has been. Maybe even his own blog.
I know someone is really thinking about doing this now! I just love putting evil little thoughts into people's heads!
:)

Love the Somewhat Cowl - think I'll have to get the pattern right away. Cute gnome, too!

Posted by: Susan at January 4, 2006 08:59 PM

The gnome is overwhelmingly cute, for real. I'm charmed by him, as I hope the recipient is!

I think that the Cowl or Salina would look really sexy on you, uh huh. Of course, the cowl has more layering possibilities.

I hope that you are ready for the new challenges of 2006, I wish you strength for them. Best to you.

My vote is for the somewhat cowl, fwiw. It looks really sleek and cute.

I love the gnome SO much!! I looked for the magazine and only see it in the UK. Is there anyway to get it in the US that you know of, and if so, what issue was the gnome in? I *need* to make him.
Thanks!
