T-minus 3 hours and holding... Scrubbed!

Mean Green
Well, I keep forgetting the everyday cardi pattern at work. Whatup??!!
Mean Green has been stalled. I've picked her up again...check it!

Ah, stockinette...how I love thee.
So simple. So quick. So in need of blocking.

As I've been completing one panel, I've been blocking another...
That'll be a no wait for seaming! I know...I'm a SUPER GENIUS.

I love this color...it's so Mr. Rogers. "Won't you be...my neighbor?"
It's something I am going to wear weekly...I already want another in black.

I'm a really super plain dresser (is that a word?)
I prefer Target's white teeshirts, jeans, hoodies and doc martens.
I would wear the exact same thing to work everyday if I could get away with it...
Like Albert Einstein.
But alas, I think the nerdy weirdo quota for my work is already at maximum, so I switch it up.

Retro Ribbie Sock #2
and the retro ribbie second sock progress...
I'm past the decreases (yuk) and it's just steady eddy from now until the toe.

Pixie loves socks...she calls my needles toothpicks and has been lovin to hoof around in my one completed retro rib. It's only a bit big on her...which makes me think she's going to tower over me. Which is okay, because then I can make her retrieve tupperware from the top cabinet.
Perks, people, perks!

Guess what is on it's way to me?
The first issue of Simply Knitting. Simply divine, I say!

Return to Flight!

It's been two and a half years...
G-d Bless Columbia and her crew.

*bowes head*

Yet, here we are again, launch day. STS-114...
We've got a 60% chance of a scrub...and we're all hoping it won't get scrubbed.

Update: Launch Scrubbed. The Backup's Backup Fuel Eco-sensor isn't nominal on the External Fuel Tank. Possibly the test circuitry on that sensor. Was that TMI? :)

GO DISCOVERY!
Here she is on the pad last night...

Here is where I'll be...

The air is thick with anticipation, worry and hope.
G-dspeed, Discovery.

Off I go to watch closed circuit NASA tv, and knit for lunch.
What? Watch boring ol launch preparations? Can you say SPACE GEEK!!!!
Awesome.

Here's hoping for a safe launch! You are the coolest space geek I know. Mwah!

I have not seen your Mean Green in person yet--all of these pics make me want to touch it. I LOVE the color!

Thanks for the Discovery update! It is an exciting time :)

I remember 4th grade sitting at my desk in school. One of those always remember moments. Best wishes on the launch today. My prayers are with all. Your mean green is awesome and you guys make want to do socks socks and more socks!

Mean Green is coming along nicely. I can't wait to see you wearing it, Neighbor.

Good Luck with the launch today... I hope everything goes without a hitch!

Love you!

My husband and you would get along all too well, though, I have to say that some (probably a lot) of his space geekiness has rubbed off on me.
Have fun!

I thought of you this morning when I was listening to the news on my way to work. . . and you *are* all geared up for the launch. Lucky you getting to knit, too!

On the knitting front, I love Mr. Rogers, and that sweater is very evocative of him. I must confess that I sometimes do the single piece blocking and then sew pieces together as they are finished so that I don't have one huge seaming project at the end.

And, of course, I *have* to say something about the wardrobe. It would be mine if I could get away with wearing that to work. I haven't tried the Target t-shirts (or any other apparel) but I guess I will give it a go on your recommendation. I've been happy with every other purchase I've ever made there. Maybe the desire to wear the same thing every single day is a sign of genius -- you, Einstein, and a really, really smart professor I had in grad school.

It sounds to me like you and I have extremely similar tastes in fashion. That is to say, simple is better. Give me my favorite pair of jeans and a t-shirt and I'm golden!

Retro sock #2 is coming along beautifully! I love the colors!

I like to think geeks are cool. It makes me feel better about myself. :D

BTW, I really like that shade of green on your cardi.

Go Discovery! I'm sending good vibes.

I've been thinking about you all morning with the impending launch of the shuttle :). I hope everything gets fixed and she takes off okay.

btw, I so totally dress the same way. I'm all about t-shirts and jeans, and doc martens (or running shoes). I wish I could wear that uniform to work..

I'm getting a hankering for sock knitting, thanks to you and Lolly! Love that pattern.

So bummed about the scrub :( I'm such a space geek and really wanted to see the shuttle back in the air. I'll keep my fingers crossed for Monday. Love the fun you had in your last post. It looks like the summer agrees with everyone. Hope to see you gals again soon.

Thanks for the little peek into NASA life. I think we'd all be fascinated to hear more about it. Sad about the mission but hopefully it will continue in the safest manner possible.

I always wear jeans, a sleeveless tee, a hoodie and flip flops. People ask me if I'm in college. I prefer to believe it is because of my youthful appearance rather than the fact that I dress like a little scrub.

LOVE the socks.

Just catching up here!

Love your One Skein Wonder and Bolero! Great job on both!! Pixie is the cutest...

You easily have The Coolest Job which makes you The Coolest Kid in town.

Seriously.

Awesome.

If I were still in school, I'd so want to bring you for show and tell. ;)

Hey! I love the sock, is that Lorna's Laces? What is the color?

BTW-What the heck do you do anyway?

Posted by: Teresa C at July 13, 2005 10:06 PM

Target clothes are SO awesome. And I think you're pretty cool with all that space geek talk. I hate it when the test circuitry causes problems. hee hee.

Posted by: Carrie at July 14, 2005 09:25 AM

You are so cool. A bona fide space geek with security access and all! I am so impressed!

Posted by: melanie at July 14, 2005 09:34 AM

I love the shade of green you are making everyday with!
Where did you first see Simply Knitting to know that you would like it?

Posted by: Karen at July 14, 2005 10:31 AM

Sorry the launch was scrubbed. I hope they get her airbone soon!

Love that stockinette. Mindless knitting is perfect when in stressful situations.

Posted by: Anmiryam at July 14, 2005 03:21 PM

Girl you crack me up! I agree w/Kate, you are the coolest space geek. Love that quick knit stockinette...gotta get that yarn now...geeezzz you're a bad influence. Now you go on and have yourself a "Dang Quesa dilla"!

Posted by: Donna at July 14, 2005 06:16 PM

The everyday's going to be great, and love the sock color! Keeping my fingers crosses for a new launch date...

Posted by: Michelle at July 15, 2005 11:44 AM

That is too bad about the shuttle!

Your Everyday cardi is going to be so cool. I have to try it on when you are done! And no...it does not remind me of Mr Rogers!
